We absolutely love working with truly creative people. And Hunter Johnson of TONO Architects fit the bill! Hunter came to us looking to make a promotional film back in 2012. We filmed an interview with him, but budget and time constraints forced the project to be put on hold. For two years, I had TONO on my upcoming projects board.
The fateful day came when Hunter came calling, in early 2014. This time he meant business – the film project was now part of a larger brand overhaul. TONO Architects was now becoming TONO Group, a parent company to three brands: TONO Architects, PROTO Construction, and DECO Interior Design.
Part of the rebrand was a completely new website, which was to be very media driven. We were commissioned one overall brand film, and a (still ongoing) series of case studies featuring TONO’s work.
While the words “media-driven website” is usually enough to excite us, we were truly struck by Hunter’s passion for his art form. Not only is he an extremely talented designer, but he truly cares about creating meaningful spaces that impact people’s lives for the better. This really resonated with us, as it’s exactly what we strive to do through our films. It became our challenge to not only capture the skill and beauty of his work, but also his genuine passion behind it.
The shoot commenced, and lasted through the summer of 2014. We filmed at seven locations, over the course of three months. In addition to other things, production involved our first foray into aerial cinematography – more on that in a later post! Post Production took us into early fall, and we ended up with three finished case studies, in addition to the main promotional film:
TONO // Crossway Church
TONO // Palate Company
TONO // Garber Metrology
The new TONO website went live in January, 2015. Media-driven was putting it lightly… LampHouse content is all over the place! We love a well designed website that prominently features video. Check it out here.
We were pleased with how the films developed, but we were truly blessed by Hunter’s response to the films. We loved seeing his eyes light up as we reviewed edits together. His excitement was our encouragement that we were capturing his vision, and the passion behind his beloved craft.
After it was all said and done, Hunter was kind enough to write these words about his experience with LampHouse Films:
Simply put, Michael Schmucker and his team at LampHouse Films provide superior filmmaking with a true sense of craft and care of service. LampHouse provided a clear vision for our project, lead the creative effort and produced a series of outstanding short films for the TONO Group of companies far surpassing my expectations. From inception of concept to final high definition video, Michael handled all of the details to produce a highly polished product that elevates our image and brand to a new level. I highly recommend LampHouse Films and their team of experts to bring your vision to life. You will not find better value, or better people.
Thanks, Hunter! Your passion is inspiring, and your talent is extraordinary. Working with TONO Group was easily a highlight of 2014 for LampHouse Films.
