Refugee Resettlement

In 2017, BBC News called Lancaster, Pennsylvania, “America’s Refugee Capital,” stating: “This US town takes 20 times more refugees per capita than the rest of the US.” Perhaps none have been more instrumental in this achievement than Sheila Mastropietro.

In 1987, Sheila opened the Lancaster Chapter of Church World Service. Since then, Lancaster CWS has helped resettle over 6,000 refugees in Lancaster, PA. To commemorate Sheila’s retirement, this film highlights her legacy, through the stories of some of the refugees she helped resettle.
